QTW 59 - Data-Rate Guidelines (1-Aug-95)
Q What guidelines are there for the maximum movie data rate when playing from a
CD-ROM for Cinepak 320x240 15fps and 22k 8bit audio?
A Many double-speed CD-ROM drives do not deliver sustained data-transfer rates
above 200KB per second under Windows. Therefore, we recommend 150-180KB per
second as a practical limit for all tracks be played concurrently under
QuickTime for Windows. Depending upon the movie's video content, a Cinepak
compressed 320x240x15fps video track and a 22K, 8-bit audio track should fit
into these data-rate constraints. For better audio at the same data rate, use
44.1K, 16-bit audio with IMA 4:1 compression.
